Operational Network and Customer Base
A broad operational network and a large customer base combine to protect the company from dependence on a small number of customers or their location. General Mills sells to members, pet specialty shops, grocery stores, and drug stores as well as commercial and non-commercial food distributors, eCommerce retailers, dollar- and discount chains, and convenience, and restaurant stores. It sells its products via a direct sales force and distributors for specific products and customers. General mills had manufacturing plants in 13 countries and served customers in more than 100 countries around the globe.
As part of the Haagen-Dazs Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Australia segments, the company owned 466 franchise-branded ice cream parlors and 392 leased ice cream parlors. The company owned 46 manufacturing plants, with 24 of them in the USA, eight in Europe and Australia, seven in Latin America, Mexico, and four in the Greater China Region. There were also two Canadian facilities and one in Asia. It owned convenience stores and food services in Missouri, Minnesota, and the US.
