The process of inspecting, testing, or evaluating materials, components, and assemblies for discontinuities or changes in characteristics without compromising a part or system’s serviceability is known as Nondestructive Testing (NDT).
In other words, a part can still be used once the inspection or test is completed. Other tests, unlike NDT, are destructive in nature and are performed on a small number of samples (“lot sampling”) rather than the materials, components, or assemblies that will be used.
These destructive tests are commonly used to measure material physical attributes such as impact resistance, ductility, yield & ultimate tensile strength, fracture toughness, and fatigue strength, although NDT is more successful in detecting discontinuities and changes in material characteristics.
Modern non-destructive tests are being utilized in manufacturing, fabrication, and in-service inspections to verify product integrity and reliability, as well as to regulate manufacturing processes, reduce production costs, and maintain a consistent quality level.
During fabrication and erection phases of construction, NDT is used to assure the quality of materials and joining methods, and in-service, NDT inspections are used to ensure that the products in use maintain the integrity required to ensure their utility and public safety.

Market Dynamics –
Drivers:
The market for NDT, inspection equipment and services are growing due to the increasing complexity of machinery, the growing demand for precise product usage specifications, the ongoing strict implementation of government regulations to ensure the safety of a workforce, and the increasing stringent quality control requirements.
Evidence of infrastructure failures such as nuclear reactor leaks, pipeline explosions, and refinery blasts have compelled governments across the world to impose stricter safety laws, thereby fueling the demand for NDT, equipment and service inspection solutions.
Restraints:
The demand for nondestructive testing and inspection services is growing at a rapid pace in comparison to the demand for nondestructive testing and inspection equipment. Furthermore, it is critical for players to expand their respective global footprint, while also maintain highly qualified staff that are capable of offering effective NDT and inspection services.
As a result, skilled personnel with the necessary NDT and inspection skills are a strategic priority for concerned businesses. Respective government regulations are becoming more stringent, and the complexity of NDT and related inspection processes are subsequently increasing the demand for competent testers and inspectors in the process.
Opportunities:
India, China, Malaysia, and Brazil are undergoing tremendous infrastructure developments, including the construction of new bridges, dams, trains, power plants, and refineries. As a result, the demand for NDT and related inspection services as well as equipment are likely to increase, thereby accelerating revenue growth prospects for companies that offer these services.
Trends:
Between 2020-2025, the manufacturing sector is anticipated to be the fastest-growing vertical in the NDT and inspection industry. Emerging markets such as China, India, and South Africa are fueling this industry thanks to their ever-expanding manufacturing and industrial bases.
In manufacturing, NDT and inspection techniques are routinely utilized to assure the integrity of components manufactured. This method is mostly used for preventative maintenance, failure analysis, and damage restoration.
